“Reforming public policy can be extraordinarily complicated and require revising detailed legislative language, changing financial incentives, or modifying arcane programs. This level of detail may be appropriate for a bureaucrat, but to convince elected officials and the media that your argument matters, you need to tell a clear story. In this session, I will explain both the process for developing the substance of a policy proposal and for packaging that proposal in a clear story. I will draw on a recent report, ‘Big Ideas for Small Business,’ as well as my time at the White House National Economic Council.” - Nate Loewentheil
Join us for this training session on how to write a policy brief with Nate Loewentheil, an investor, social entrepreneur, and nationally recognized public policy expert. Nate is currently a Vice President at Camber Creek, the premier proptech venture capital firm in the United States. Previously, Nate served in the Obama White House as a Special Assistant to the President at the National Economic Council, where he advised President Obama on urban policy, transportation, and emerging technologies.
Nate is the founder of numerous successful social enterprises, including Baltimore Homecoming, the Millennial Action Project and the Roosevelt National Network. As an angel investor, he has backed companies ranging from the pharmaceutical company Roivant to the fashion start-up Eckhaus-Latta. He is a former Forbes 30 under 30, Baltimore 40 under 40, and Aspen Ideas Fellow. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Politico, Fast Company, The Baltimore Sun, Salon and other outlets. His most recent paper, published by Yale’s Institution for Social and Policy Studies, examines the Paycheck Protection Program. Next year, he will be teaching a course at Yale on “Technology and the American City.” Nate holds both a BA and JD from Yale. He lives with his fiancé in New York City.
